Absolutely incredible experience from Caitlin as I was extremely concerned with it being my first visit and previous hair experiences not so good in my local area. Due to these online ratings I chose this salon and so glad I did. Caitlin did exactly what I wanted with such confidence, experience and patience. Had my hair done now 3 times at this place first time awful , 2nd time just as bad so thought right one last chance with a different stylist and …. Well let’s just say that was my last visit . Wanted full head of highlights and specifically said not ash blonde …. Half way through having foils put in she let a trainee take over while my stylist started and finished another ladies highlights , my foils were left in too long as I was sat and sat and sat and sat , was taking over to Sink where only half of the foils was removed then left at the sink…. 1 hour later after I was left without a towel round my neck just a large stupid tissue so my top was soaked , I was soaked and very uncomfortable they were reminded by another stylist that I was sat here waiting and needed rinsing off she came and removed foils and washed my hair . She took me back to my seat only to reveal my hair was ASH blonde and not the colour I’d asked for . By this time I was the last customer in there bearing in mind a 2 hour hair appointment lasted over 4 hours due to been left that long . She dried my hair ran straighteners through it and sent me on my way charging me full wack for the stressful long uncomfortable and wet appointment I had experienced I just wanted to get out of there asap . I tied my hair back and got out of there , I will never return to this place . Got home took my soaked top off and noticed was ruined with bleach round the neck , £80 top ruined due to lack of care , no towel and left for hours whilst they did other customers hair. Absolutely shocking service I didn’t make a complaint as I feel would be a waste of time due to the lack of giving a s..t while your in there anyway I just told myself never again . If you still insist on using this dreadful place where u get left with trainees or want shocking customer service then I suggest maybe ask for Caitlin as she was only stylist in there with half a brain . I am now left with a colour I hate , 1 less top but looking forward to a new and hopefully better experience at another hairdressers that isn’t ran by Young clueless staff that care more about finishing on time than the clients hair . Shocking , disgusting waste of money and very poor management. Worst place ever !!!!

Had a lovely first experience at the salon. The comfiest chairs I’ve ever sat on at a salon and massage chairs while you get your hair washed! Caitlin cut and styled my hair she was very friendly and professional throughout and I am absolute thrilled with the results, it’s the happiest I have come away from a salon in a long time. It’s not local to me but I think I will happily travel when I next need a cut.

Having gone to two other hair salons in Durham in which I had horrid experiences with. I was nervous to try a third salon out. Lisha was utterly fantastic, not only did she really listen to what I wanted, my hair turned out even better than expected (my husband even noticed!) I have recently discovered Janet Maitland. At last I have found someone who understands my hair from the cutting to the colour! I'm so impressed with the running of the salon, the friendliness, the high standards and the hairdressers being kept up to date with every aspect of haircare. Huge thanks to Suzy and Caitlin.

Cool and elegant? Definitely. Warm and friendly? Absolutely. Janet Maitland is a byeword for excellence not only when it comes to hairstyling, but also in her seriously lovely staff and the atmosphere in the salon itself. I wouldn't get my hair done anywhere else.

I’ve visited many hair salons around the world and Janet Maitland Hair Excellence is at the top of my list for quality, professionalism and caring staff. The experience is so incredibly individual and personalised. From the moment you enter the salon the staff are attentive, they ensure every client is comfortable. I look forward to the hair wash, it is like being in a spa, the head massage is so relaxing. Highly recommend.
